Steve and CarolineI believe that the read/write Web, or what we are calling Web 2.0, will culturally, socially, intellectually, and politically have a greater impact than the advent of the printing press. I believe that we cannot even begin to imagine the changes that are going to take place as the two-way nature of the Internet begins to flower, and that even those of us who have spent time imagining this future will be astounded by what happens. I’m going to identify ten trends in this regard that I think have particular importance for education and learning, and then discuss seven steps I think educators can take to make a difference during this time. Full details.

Why has the Web now got a number? Or coming to terms with the read/write web, knowledge production in schools and learning to deal with technologies that develop exponentially.

Web 2.0 or the read/write web is the latest of a long line of computing-related developments that have prompted considerable interest in schools. Unlike earlier developments, in which responses by schools have followed predictable patterns, the read/write or social Web poses different challenges for schools as well as offering new ways of working for students and teachers.  Full details.

    Great program!

  2.   michael Says:

I have signed up for the program, but will be unable to attend live because Monday 21/7 is the first day of term 3 in NZ and I’ll be teaching in the classroom. The keynotes will be available for download after the event won’t they? I know that’s not the same, but hopefully I’ll be able to participate in the forums later. Good work and good luck!

  3.   knowledgebank Says:

    Hi Michael,
Yes – all the sessions will be recorded – the recording links will be posted up on the program soon after the sessions – so you can listen to the sessions and comment on them here, or in the conference wiki – which will be available later today.

Thanks for participating, get on the mailing list and come to the next event!

    Tamara

  4.   Teri Says:

I have made the change to your calendar but it does not appear your session on line have been changed. Could I please get the start and end times for each session on each day? The program session on the site only shows 4-5 hours a day–but the new change sent goes until 5 but I have no idea how the session times have changed. Thanks.

  8.   Jenny Ashby Says:

    Hi Tamara,

We were sent an email saying that the time were changed so this may have lead to some people being confused. It would seem that the times have not changed after all.

    See you at the conference,

    jenny

  9.   knowledgebank Says:

    Hi Jenny

No – the conference times have not changed – all the session times are shown on the program and are as they always were. Sorry if the reminder email was confusing. See you at the conference.

  12.   Mark Landy Says:

    Hi Tim
Links to the recordings will be posted beside Join Here links for each session and everywhere we can think of to help you find them.
    Mark

  13.   Lisa Hill Says:

But where are the ‘join here’ links? Can we have a URL please!
This is really hard, if you’re a practising teacher wanting to participate and everything seems to be opaque because you couldn’t be present at the housekeeping session at 9.00 this morning just as we were starting classes.
Do you mean Quick Links here on this page? On knowledgebankconference2008.globalteacher.org.au. somewhere?

  14.   knowledgebank Says:

Hi Lisa – sorry this is frustrating for you – the ‘Join’ links are shown below the session descriptions for each session. “Click here to join the session.” HOWEVER – I’m still waiting for the recording links to come through from Elluminate, so the recordings are not yet posted. Bear with us Lisa – I’ll have those links up as soon as I get them.

    Tamara

  15.   knowledgebank Says:

Hi everyone – recording links are now up – you will see them in the Program, on the Session Descriptions, and in the Quick-Links. Be a little patient – recordings take a few minutes to load!
